Who We Are
Variety Club Midlands is run by a small, hard working and committed Regional Committee. This ensures that the least possible is spent on administration, which means that more than 90p of every £ raised goes directly to the children and every penny of that is spent in the Midlands on Midlands children.
The work of the Regional Committee involves enthusiastic participation in the organisation of fundraising events either on a local or a regional scale. They can be anything from a night at the dogs, sporting dinners and golfing events to Balls and the prestigious Midlands Business Awards.
Membership of the Appeals Committee entails visiting and assessing the needs of applicants, be they schools or voluntary bodies needing a Sunshine Coach or youngsters desperately in need of the independence that a wheelchair, trike or buggy can bring.
Because the problems and solutions are rarely the same the work brings with it a great deal of satisfaction - the one common cause being to raise the money to pay for our aspirations and those of the youngsters we aim to help.
Apart from Sunshine Coaches and wheelchairs etc, more than 5,000 children are taken once a year to the West Midlands Safari Park at Bewdley (below left) where, supported by the park's
management, they are treated to a day out to remember. Scores more have been taken on a Flight of Fantasy to meet Father Christmas (above right) courtesy of My Travel and Thomas Cook. Severn Valley Railway also helps with a special Variety Club Christmas Train run for the children (below) and presents from West Bromwich Building Society.
While our primary objective is to bring freedom and fun to the children we help, we also believe in making fundraising fun for ourselves and for the people who support our functions.
Entertainment, as you will see from our Events Guide elsewhere on this website, is the core of our activities.
You cannot put a price on happiness, but it costs to help sick, disabled and disadvantaged children experience the full joys of childhood. And that is what Variety Club Midlands is all about.
